Soroptimists International of Crescent City is currently accepting applications for three awards for local women and girls.

The first award is the $300 Ruby Award. This honors women who use their personal or professional influence to improve the lives of other women.

Eligibility for the Ruby Award includes women who have supported non-profit organizations or have been involved in making a difference in the lives of women and/or children.

The second award is the $2,000 Women's Opportunity Award (WOA). This is granted to applicants who provide primary financial support for their families, and who are enrolled in or have been accepted to a vocational training program or an undergraduate degree program.

The WOA can be used to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, including books, child care and transportation.

The last award is the $300 Violet Richardson Award. This award is given to girls ages 14-17 who volunteer in our community. These young women are making a difference in our community though volunteer efforts such as: fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning up the environment; and working to end discrimination and poverty.

Soroptimists International of Crescent City meets twice a month. You are invited to attend our meetings at noon on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Apple Peddler restaurant to learn how you can give of your gifts and talents to support the women of our community and around the world.

It is truly exciting to see how your efforts help other women and recognize their efforts.
