Deadlines on horizon for property-tax payers

Triplicate Staff

Del Norte County property owners have until Monday to pay the first installment of their 2012andndash;13 property taxes.

Property owners who don't submit their first payment by that date will incur a 10 percent penalty on each parcel, according to the Del Norte County tax collector.

Those who recently purchased property and did not receive a tax bill should call the Tax Collector's Office, 464-7283. Payments can be sent to the Tax Collector's Office, 981 H St., Suite 150, in Crescent City.

Meanwhile, property owners also have until Dec. 31 to apply for an informal value reduction with the county assessor for the 2012andndash;13 tax roll.

Applications turned in after the deadline will be processed for the 2013andndash;14 tax bill, according to a press release from the Del Norte County Assessor's Office.

Property owners who feel their assessed value for the 2012andndash;13 tax bill was higher than the market value on Jan. 1, 2012, should contact the Assessor's Office by Dec. 31 for information on an informal value reduction request.

Property owners who are granted an informal value reduction are still obligated to pay their taxes by the due date, according to the Assessor's Office. Property owners may receive penalties and interest if their taxes aren't paid on time.

For more information, call the Assessor's Office, 464-7200. The office is in the Flynn Administrative Center at 981 H St., Suite 120, in Crescent City.
