A fist fight involving three men turned ugly when one allegedly delivered blows to another who was lying unconscious on the ground, authorities said.
Neal Warren, 32, of Crescent City was allegedly in a fight with a 17-year-old Wednesday afternoon in Fort Dick when the minor's father, Jon Paul Herron, stepped in to protect his son, authorities said.
After Herron, 46, of Fort Dick, knocked out Warren with a few punches, he allegedly continued to kick the unconscious Warren in the head and hit him with a stick or a baseball bat, authorities said.
"It was a cluster fight that ended up going bad," said Del Norte County sheriff's Commander Tim Athey.
Warren, who has warrants for
his arrest, fled and hid in the brush
by the time authorities arrived, Athey said.
Herron was booked into the Del Norte County Jail on Wednesday evening on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious bodily injury.
