A local man is facing three vehicular manslaughter charges after a wreck south of Crescent City last March that killed three people, including his brother.
Darren J. Davis, 23, was travelling north on U.S. Highway 101 when he crossed into oncoming traffic and was struck by a Honda Accord, authorities said.
The Volkswagen Beetle Davis was driving was struck on its passenger side. The collision sent it rolling to the southbound shoulder, landing on the passenger side where Darvin Davis, 25, was sitting, authorities said. Darvin Davis died as a result of the crash, as did Darrell L. Stock, 77 and his wife Pamela A. Stock, 66, both of Crescent City, who were in the Accord, authorities said.
Darren Davis was travelling on a wet surface too fast to control his car, said District Attorney Jon Alexander.
The defendant was involved in a similar accident the year before, Alexander said.
It took almost a year to file charges because his office was investigating the potential of marijuana being related to the crash; but it was not, Alexander said.
In addition to the three vehicular manslaughter charges, a reckless driving charge was also filed against Davis.
