Anti-blight program offers cleanup help

Newly elected Del Norte County Supervisor Roger Gitlin said Friday he's starting a "Take a Bite out of Blight" program in partnership with Our Daily Bread Ministries and Jordan Recovery Group.

In a press release, Gitlin called the program "a non-government community outreach effort which assists needy homeowners in cleaning up their properties by removing trash and eyesore debris, thereby helping to beautify the neighborhood."

He said he will "work closely with the Del Norte County Code Enforcement Department in selecting properties for improvement."

Gitlin suggested that anyone interested in financially assisting the effort should make a contribution to one of the two organizations he's partnering with. He said he's also contributing a portion of his own salary to the program.
