A wanted Trinidad man eluded authorities in a high-speed pursuit in Crescent City on Wednesday.
California Highway Patrol officers were approached by a citizen notifying them a person who is being sought by Humboldt authorities was at 9th Street Liquors and gave the description of the black Chevy Tahoe the man was driving around 4 p.m., said CHP Sgt. Rick Thoma.
Officers spotted the SUV on Northcrest Drive south of Old Mill Road and engaged in a short pursuit with the suspected driver, David M. Silva, Thoma said.
The officers stopped pursuing Silva due to high speeds and reckless driving, Thoma said.
The SUV was then located behind a residence on Bachelor Road, Thoma said.
Silva has a couple of outstanding felony arrest warrants for possessing a controlled substance and receiving stolen property. He is also being sought for additional charges of possessing stolen property, being a felon in possession of a firearm, making terrorist threats and assault.
On Feb. 5, Humboldt authorities attempted to serve the two felony arrest warrants at Silva's residence on Cher-Ae Lane in Trinidad, but he was not there, according to a press release issued by the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office.
During a search of his residence authorities located a shotgun, ammunition, several chain saws with the serial numbers removed, a stolen Jeep Wrangler and a stolen motorcycle, the Sheriff's Office stated.
The following morning at around 1:30 a.m., sheriff's deputies were called to the residence on a report of an assault in progress, the Sheriff's Office stated.
Deputies made contact with a 50-year-old woman who stated she was awakened by Silva punching her in the face and threatening to kill her or anyone else who called authorities about him, the Sheriff's Office stated.
Silva fled prior to the deputies' arrival.
Silva is described as a 41-year-old Native American with brown hair and eyes. He stands 6 feet tall and weighs 250 pounds.
Anyone who sees him or knows of his whereabouts is encouraged to call the Del Norte County Sheriff's Office at 707-464-2141 or the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office at 707-445-7251.
