Sutter Coast Hospital's chief executive officer, Eugene Suksi, will resign effective April 25, it was announced Monday.
Suksi served in the post for four and a half years. For the last year and a half, the hospital has been embroiled in controversy over its move toward "regionalization," which called for replacing its local board of directors with representation on a regional board. Opponents, including Sutter Coast's current and former chiefs of medical staff, have said the move would lead to loss of local control and likely downsizing of the hospital.
The board voted earlier this month to put the moved toward regionalization on hold.
Suksi came to Sutter Coast in September 2008 from Leavenworth, Wash., where he was CEO of Cascade Medical Center.
An interim replacement will be appointed soon, hospital employees and medical personnel were told this morning.
