Gunman robs Lighthouse Inn

Crescent City Police are investigating an early Saturday armed robbery at the Lighthouse Inn.

Officers responded to a call around 3 a.m. at the motel, 681 U.S. Highway 101, after an employee was forced into a bathroom by the gun-wielding culprit, said Police Chief Doug Plack.

"The employee stated she was in the kitchen area preparing breakfast when she heard the front doorbell chime and walked toward the lobby counter," said Plack.

When she reached the counter she encountered a male dressed in black windbreaker pants and a black hooded sweatshirt, wearing gloves and a nylon mask.

He pointed a handgun at her, Plack said.

The male demanded money from the register and after several attempts the employee was able to open it and give the robber what he was seeking, Plack said.

The male then told her to lock herself in the bathroom - which she did - and he fled, Plack said.

Surveillance videos are being analyzed, as well as possible leads, Plack said.

The CCPD is asking anyone with information about the robbery to contact authorities.

Citizens can call the Police Department at 464-2133 or the Crescent City Crime Tip Line anonymously at 218-4229.
