Water from dam release expected

The Trinity River will start receiving dam releases on Sunday, boosting the river from 300 cubic feet per second to an expected 4,500 cfs the following week.

The Bureau of Reclamation announced its plans for releases from Lewiston Dam this week, noting that peak release is currently scheduled for May 2 at 4 a.m.

"That flow will not reach Willow Creek until the early morning hours on May 3," said Bob Hemus, Recreation Officer with Six Rivers National Forest. "We

expect the river to be higher than normal for this time of year. It will be colder and swifter as well. This high flow will continue for three days and then slowly go back to previous levels."
