Attempted murder arrest made at Pacific Shores

After a verbal dispute between neighbors led to a shotgun fired at a man in the pseudo-subdivision of Pacific Shores on Monday, Daniel M. Harden, 57, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, officials said.

Harden was having a dispute with James Hughey, who had a fifth wheel RV on Harden's property, according to Del Norte County sheriff's Commander Bill Steven. Hughey was supposed to clean up Harden's property, but Hughey just dumped the trash from Harden's property in another section of Pacific Shores, Steven said.

Harden was holding onto Hughey's fifth wheel until the illegal dumping issue was resolved, but the two men got into a verbal altercation that led to Harden allegedly firing one shotgun round, Steven said.

Hughey called authorities, and sheriff's deputies drove to the property to question Harden, who denied owning a shotgun, Steven said.

Witnesses from Pacific Shores said that Harden did have a shotgun, and the deputies found onein Harden's home, Steven said.

Harden was then arrested.
