A local homeless man sought for attempted murder in a July 4 attack has been arrested.

Authorities responded to a report that Kevin Kinman, 49, Crescent City, was walking near U.S. Highway 101 and Elk Valley Cross Road on Thursday morning, said sheriff's Commander Bill Steven.

A sheriff's sergeant located Kinman north of the intersection on the highway and arrested him without incident, Steven said.

Kinman was sought after allegedly attacking a man near the wooded area behind Safeway, authorities said.

Kinman allegedly slashed the man with a knife on the back of the neck as he fled, authorities said. The man was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital, treated and released.
