Escaped inmate taken into custody

An hours-long manhunt for an inmate who escaped Pelican Bay State Prison on Monday afternoon ended where it began.

The prison's crisis response team located inmate Tore Digirolamo around 7:30 p.m. Monday hiding in thick brush near Lake Earl, according to authorities in Del Norte County.

The search started around 12:30 p.m., according to prison officials, after Digirolamo walked away from the minimum security facility at Pelican Bay.

Pelican Bay correctional officers, the Del Norte County Sheriff's Office, the California Highway Patrol and the Crescent City Police Department helped in the search.

The sheriff's office provided a helicopter to search from overhead; armed officers and police dogs searched for the inmate on foot.

Digirolamo, 44, from Los Angeles County, is serving a four-year sentence for second-degree burglary, officials said. He began serving his term in July 2011.
