Biologist sets event on Sunday

Wildlife biologist Sandra Hunt will present "Introduction to Dragonflies" on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Tolowa Dunes State Park.

Hunt will be begin with a slide presentation about dragonflies, their life cycle, habitat needs and how to attract them to your backyard.

Then she will lead a field trip to a nearby pond to scout for dragonflies.

Participants are asked to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring drinking water. They should meet at 1 p.m. at the Lake Earl Wildlife Area headquarters, 2591 Old Mill Road, northeast of Crescent City.

Hunt is the senior wildlife biologist for Pacific Northwestern Biological Resources Consultants Inc. She has been conducting wildlife/biological surveys and assessments specializing in sensitive and endangered species since the late-1990s.

She also works for the Forest-Wildlife Department at the Hoopa Valley Tribe, where she conducts bear, fisher, bobcat and woodpecker surveys, as well as wildlife habitat and forest inventory surveys.

Tolowa Coast summer programs are sponsored by the Redwood Parks Association and the Tolowa Dunes Stewards in conjunction with the California State Parks and the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
