Tedd Ward was appointed to serve as acting director of the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority during a closed session board meeting on Wednesday.
The authority is actively seeking an interim director for the agency, with the first interviews scheduled for as soon as next week, said Board Chairman Rich Enea.
The director position became vacant last week when the Authority Board told former director Kevin Hendrick to either retire or be fired. Hendrick chose early retirement starting last week, with 90 days of severance pay approved by the board.
Ward also still holds his position as the authority's program manager, which he is expected to retain after the appointment of an interim director.
Operations at the transfer station and other authority projects will continue without change, although Ward will likely have to prioritize certain tasks over others while he balances the authority's two top positions, Enea said.
"It's business as usual," Enea said.
