Following a manhunt, a local barber was arrested this week on suspicion of sexually-related charges.

In connection with the molestation of three juvenile girls, David E. Wright, 42, of Crescent City, was sought Monday when he fled Del Norte County with several guns, said sheriff's Sgt. Steve Morris.

"Detective (Bob) Barber came up with a strong possibility of 'Big Wave Dave' being in the San Jose area," said Morris, referring to Wright's nickname.

Members of the Santa Clara Sheriff's Office Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Team were then notified Wright may be at a known address in the area, where his truck was eventually located, Morris said.

Santa Clara S.W.A.T team was called in to assist after an arrest warrant was obtained as Wright was considered armed and dangerous, Morris said.

During surveillance, Wright was seen in the front yard and arrested on Tuesday, Morris said.

Sheriff's Detective Ed Fleshman, who handles sex-related investigations for the Sheriff's Office, was notified and made arrangements to pick up Wright from the Santa Clara County Jail early Wednesday morning, Morris said.

"He and Deputy Richard Griffin drove all the way down, picked him up and brought him all the way back," said Morris.

Wright was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday on suspicion of two counts of sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 years old between the time frame of 2010 to 2013, according to court documents. Wright is alleged to have repeatedly molested the victims, ages 9, 10 and 11,Morris said.

Wright was also charged on suspicion of penetration of a foreign object and a forcible lewd act occurring Aug. 4, according to court documents.

His arraignment was continued to Monday.

Wright is the co-owner Big Wave Barbershop in Mason Mall near 3rd and K streets.

The molestation allegations are not related to his business activity, Morris said.
