Berry big festival set for Saturday

Breakfast, lunch and a celebration of berries in Klamath

Enjoy the fruits of the season at the Klamath Berry Festival on Saturday at the Klamath Camper Corral RV Park and Campground, 18151 U.S. Hwy. 101.

The community fundraising event will kick off with a blackberry pancake breakfast at 9 a.m., served by the Crescent Elk cheerleaders. The cost is $6 for one pancake and $8 for two pancakes, and both options include sausages, eggs and beverages.

Free family activities will follow, including a Depot Kids Workshop, the Wonder Bus, chalk art, spray painting with stencils, rock painting, a maze to run through and ballerina and cheerleading demonstrations.

Smokey the Bear will offer a game of putting out a fire, and to entertain kids and adults alike, remote-control plane demonstrations will begin shortly after 10 a.m.

Crescent City artist Garretta Lamore and other members of the Crescent Harbor Gallery will give painting demonstrations.

Live music will be provided from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by Ray Martel and Friends, as well as by Collette and Conrad.

The Klamath United Methodist Church will hold a raffle and a silent auction. Half of the proceeds will benefit Klamath youths for sports and recreational needs. Raffle tickets cost $20 for 50 tickets, $10 for 20 tickets, $5 for three tickets and $1 each.

A traditional Yurok-style salmon lunch will be offered starting at 11 a.m. Cost is $10 per plate and includes potato salad, macaroni salad, chili beans and corn on the cob.

Local vendors will be on hand selling arts and crafts and food, such as barbecued items, Indian tacos and berry desserts.
