Gunman enters home

Anthony Skeens, The Triplicate

It wasn't a trick or a treat when a man wearing a Halloween mask entered a Crescent City home with a gun.

A man wearing a mask resembling a ghost and brandishing a pistol invaded a home on the 1300 block of Burtschell Street around 8:40 p.m. last Thursday, sheriff's Commander Bill Steven said.

A woman who was at the home at the time of the invasion said it didn't seem real.

"The whole time we didn't think it was real," she said. "I said this isn't a funny joke, then he said, this isn't a joke and shot his gun off."

The masked person tried getting the purses and wallets of the people in the house but was unsuccessful, the woman said.

A man in the house who was ordered to hand over his wallet dumped all of its contents before throwing it to the masked person, the woman said.

The empty wallet is all the man was able to leave with, the woman said.

"He was probably in the house about five minutes," she said.

Then the masked person slipped out the back door.
