A handing off of a gun led to the death of a 19-year-old Crescent City man on Friday, authorities said Monday.

Cameron D. Anderson, 21, was handing a 9mm pistol to his brother, Kyle W. Anderson, when the gun went off striking him in the left side of his chest, said sheriff's Commander Bill Steven.

"They were transferring the weapon in an unsafe manner from person to person when ... there was an accidental discharge," said Steven. "Between (Cameron Anderson) and the witnesses spoken to, it was nothing more than an accident."

The shooting occurred at 129 Whaleview Court, where the victim lived. A Saturday article misstated the address.

Cameron Anderson, of Grants Pass, Ore., was arrestedFriday on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment. He remained in custody at the Del Norte County Jail on Monday.
