Theme sought for Fourth

The Crescent City-Del Norte County Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for another potentially fabulous Fourth of July celebration, and like every year, it's enlisting the public's help in coming up with a theme for the parade.

"We've had a lot of different themes over the years," said Chamber Executive Director Jeff Parmer. "We need a theme that embodies the local culture."

Here are some past themes:

andbull; 2005: "Comeback Town USA"

andbull; 2007: "Through the Eyes of a Child - 1857-2007"

Cleanup time

Del Norte County Supervisor Roger Gitlin is rallying the cleanup brigade to spruce up the cemetery Saturday.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the flagpole at 11 a.m. to help pull weeds and trim grass around the grave stones of the Independent Order of the Oddfellows cemetery, which is located off East Cooper behind The Home Depot.

Gitlin's Take a Bite Out of Blight program is joining forces with Our Daily Bread Ministries and Operation Del Norte Cleanup, and extra hands are greatly appreciated.

For questions or to RSVP call Dave Cormack at 464-3940 or Gitlin at 951-6361.
