Hemmingsen, Olson will run unopposed as filing deadline passes

By Jessica Cejnar / The Del Norte Triplicate

The filing period has closed for candidates running for Del Norte County sheriff, superior court judge, superintendent of schools, county clerk and District 4 supervisor, the county elections officer said Friday.

Meanwhile, the filing period for District 3 supervisor, district attorney, assessor and treasurer-tax collector will be extended until Wednesday because the incumbents did not file paperwork, County Elections Officer Alissia Northrup said. The incumbents are now unable to file for re-election, she said.

District 4 Supervisor Gerry Hemmingsen is unopposed, as is Superintendent of Schools Don Olson, Northrup said. She added that she also is unopposed as the county clerk.

Four candidates are running for Del Norte County sheriff, three candidates are running for Superior Court judge and two candidates are running for district attorney, Northrup said.

So far, Hiouchi resident Chris Howard has filed papers for the District 3 supervisor seat, which is currently held by Mike Sullivan, who is not seeking re-election. Northrup said Jennifer Perry is running for assessor and Barbara Lopez is running for treasurer-tax collector.

The Del Norte County assessor is currently Louise Wilson. The treasurer-tax collector is currently Dawn Langston.

Candidate papers for races that haven't closed are due by 5 p.m. Wednesday at the County Elections Office 981 H Street in Crescent City.
