More than 150 women from 11 congregations (including Crescent City) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their friends recently celebrated the 172nd anniversary of the organization of the Relief Society, the auxiliary of the church for adult women.
The evening included dinner, fellowship and a service project. Participants filled 50 birthday bags with party hats, dessert plates, cake mixes, icing, candles and other donated items for a complete birthday party. The bags were donated to area shelters.
From its beginning on March 17, 1842, Relief Society women have been guided by their motto, "Charity Never Faileth." Now, 172 years later, their mission to seek out and care for those in need has not changed.
The Relief Society is the oldest and largest women's organization with 5.5 million members worldwide. Its purpose is to build faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes and help those in need.
