Parents will have a chance to bring their kids in to be fitted with a life jacket on Saturday.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering free life jackets to children ages 12 and under who are accompanied by a parent or relative.

"They have to be with an adult who is related to them," said Bev Noll, former flotilla commander, who is coordinating the event, "because we weigh them and fit them and we want the parent or family member to know the proper way to put (the jacket) on because a lot of them don't know."

Life jackets are first-come first-served, Noll said.

The life jacket giveaway will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until jackets run out on Saturday. The giveaway will be located between the restrooms and Chart Room at Crescent City Harbor.
