Tribal council: Newcomer, two incumbents win

Adam Spencer, The Triplicate

Two incumbents were re-elected and one council member lost her position to a newcomer in the Smith River Rancheria Tribal Council election for three at-large seats.

Marvin Richards Sr. took the seat of Lenora Hall, who has served on the Council since 2011, while Loren Bommelyn and Denise Padgette were re-elected.

All eligible Smith River Rancheria tribal members were able to cast a vote for three nominees, the amount of at-large seats that were open on the seven-member Tribal Council.

Richards won a seat on the Council by five votes, narrowly beating out Sheryl Steinruck and only one vote behind Bommelyn.

Hall was in seventh place out of the 11 nominees for Tribal Council.

The other nominees on the ballot were Lauren Cornelis, David Hodges, Marva Jones, Tamara Lewis, Darrell Moorehead and Jeri Thompson.

The election took place Saturday.
