The committee encouraging Del Norters to vote yes on Measure A has raised more money and spent more than the opposing side, according to campaign finance paperwork turned in four days after the deadline.
The Del Norte-Jefferson Committee for Measure A, which is urging Del Norters to vote in favor of the advisory measure, filed its financial reports on Tuesday, according to County Clerk Alissia Northrup.
Measure A asks Del Norte County voters to offer their opinion on whether the Board of Supervisors should approve a declaration to withdraw from the state of California and form the state of Jefferson.
According to its paperwork, the Del Norte-Jefferson Committee for Measure A received a total of $7,075.13 in contributions, including $1,922.83 in loans and $1,087.07 in non-monetary contributions as of May 17. The committee spent a total of $5,506.61 and has an ending cash balance of $481.45.
The Committee for Measure A has received $3,515.23 in unitemized contributions of less than $100. Much of its funding has come from Aaron Funk, county coordinator for the Del Norte County State of Jefferson Declaration Steering Committee.
Funk donated $550, according to the finance reports. His business, Kamp Klamath RV park, also loaned $923.83 to the Committee for Measure A. Another loan of $999 came from Leah Bier, of Crescent City.
Funk also donated $209.01 in brochures and office supplies. He also donated $43 for flags. Matt Bier, recorder for the Del Norte County State of Jefferson Declaration Steering Committee, donated $318 for a meeting room at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds. Bier also paid $668 for radio advertising on behalf of the Committee for Measure A.
The Del Norte-Jefferson Committee for Measure A's major expenses include $923.83 to Staples for campaign literature and $2,420.91 in postage. The committee also spent $756 to BiCoastal Media for radio advertising.
According to paperwork filed by the Keep It California-No on Measure A campaign, which opposes Jefferson state, the committee received $4,168 in monetary contributions and has spent $3,842 as of May 17. The committee has an ending cash balance of $326.
Keep It California's largest contributors include $1,000 from the Del Norte Democratic Central Committee and $300 from District 2 Supervisor Martha McClure. The committee also received $1,378 in unitemized contributions of less than $100.
The Keep It California campaign has spent $1,530 in Triplicate ads and $1,858 to BiCoastal Media for radio ads.
