A car crash near Gasquet claimed the life of a passenger and left both drivers with minor injuries on Wednesday according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Saturn was going southbound on U.S. Highway 199 at 6:06 p.m. near mile post marker 10.5, which is about one mile west of the Hardscrabble Creek Bridge, when the driver of the Saturn left the roadway and collided with a rock embankment on the west side of the road, CHP said in press release.

The crash caused the car to flip upside-down and slide into the northbound lane where it was struck by a Ford pickup truck, according to the release.

The passenger in the Saturn - a 67-year-old resident of Crescent City - was fatally injured. Her name has not yet been released by CHP. Both vehicles' drivers received minor injuries.
