Klamath River Bridge construction resumes Monday

Construction on the $7 million Klamath River Bridge hinge replacement has resumed, and temporary one-way traffic control will begin Monday, causing motorists anticipated 10-minute delays.

In the second season of construction on the bridge, also known as the G. H. Douglas Memorial

Bridge, Caltrans will replace the third of three hinges, extending the service life of the structure.

A hinge is a vital part of a bridge that allows it to expand and contract with constant changes in temperature.

There will be at least one full overnight closure in June in order to allow the lowering of equipment and material beneath the bridge.

The first nighttime closure will be in effect from 10 p.m. Sunday, June 15, through 4 a.m. Monday June 16.If required there will be a second full overnight closure from 10 p.m. Monday, June 16, through 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 17.

Separate full closures will be required in October to move equipment.
