The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection announced Thursday that all burn permits within Six Rivers National Forest are suspended effective Sunday, June 21, until further notice.

The ban includes all residential, forest management, hazard abatement and other industrial permitted burning within the State Responsibility Area in Humboldt, Del Norte and parts of Siskiyou and Trinity counties.

Cal Fire reported that it has responded to 2,257 wildfires this year, well above the average of 1,394 at this time of year.

With the increased risk of wildfires this year, Cal Fire encourages people to remove fire hazards, keep a short lawn and clear fuels from around the home.
