Firefighters got a small vegetation fire in Pacific Shores under control quickly Monday.

Fort Dick Fire Chief Randy Crawford said the fire, covering a quarter to half an acre, burned mostly grass, brush and some debris.

The fire was first reported at noon on Monday, and Crawford said it was under control quickly thereafter. He estimated the Fort Dick Fire Department spent about two hours fighting the blaze before leaving Cal Fire to finish up.

A fire crew from Pelican Bay also responded.

Although there have been a few small fires here and there, Fort Dick and Del Norte County in general have been able to avoid the devastating fires that are ravaging the West thus far.

"There is a lot of stuff going on everywhere else," Crawford said. "We have been really lucky here."
