Three new police officers, one of them the interim police chief, were sworn in at the Crescent City Council meeting this week.

Interim Police Chief Scott Berry, Officer Sarah Asbury, and Reserve Officer Alex Pearson all took oaths of office, as well as read and repeated the Peace Officer Code of Ethics at Monday's meeting.

Berry, who will serve until late October and will help recruit a permanent chief, served as a police officer in Yuba City and Petaluma and as police chief in Truckee, where he worked until he retired. Since retirement he'sworked as an interim police chief in Nevada City and served as a consultant for police services.

"We're glad he can join us here in Crescent City for a few months," City Manager Gene Palazzo said.

Asbury and Pearson both lived in Crescent City already - Asbury since 2011 and Pearson for his whole life - and both recently graduated from the police academy at College of the Redwoods in Eureka. Before graduation Asbury was working as a records specialist for the city and Pearson as a lifeguard at the city pool.
