The world sure seems to be going crazy lately.

Again, I have to say how blessed we are to live in this country in spite of the things that are going on here with things like immigration and health insurance. Look at those poor Christians in Iraq. Threatened with death if they refuse to convert to Islam, stripped of every bit of their belongings at the border if they flee to another country.

The Bible has a lot to say about days like these, and sometimes, it's enough to make one wonder if we are in those "end days." A lot that's happening seems to fit the scenario.

But we shouldn't make the mistakes that a lot of people have in recent years, announcing dates that Jesus would return. If you've read your Bible, you know what Jesus himself said about that - he said that no one, not even himself - knew, only God did. That's good enough for me.

The thing is, a lot of things have to happen before that day, and a lot of things happening now seem to fit into that list. I think what that tells us is that we need to be paying attention, to be keeping our faith sharp and living the way he would want us to. Perhaps we should be paying more attention to what the Bible says. Several books in both the Old Testament as well as New Testament, like Revelation, make for some very interesting reading

I do, of course, realize that not everyone's faith is the same, and their book is not the Bible. I have, over the years, read a number of the books of other faiths - including the Koran. It helps to understand what the other guy believes, whether I agree with him or not.

We have a couple things coming up soon, and more in September. There is also one cancellation.

The Ladies' Christian Fellowship will not be meeting this month. Unexpected illness in the family for the group's leader makes it difficult for her to lead the meeting at this time. Prayer for them would be most appreciated.

Friday, Aug. 22, will be game night at New Life Community Church. You don't need to belong to the church to come and have fun. Bring a snack / finger food item and your favorite game and join the fun. The church has a lot of games, so there is sure to be something you'll like, not to mention good fellowship and lots of laughs. It all begins at 6 p.m. at the church on the corner of Second and D.

Sunday, Aug. 24, Heaven's Connection will be at both services (10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m.) at Faith Christian Center in Smith River.

The Taylor family are local folks with plenty of musical talent and a story to tell that shows what God can do. Their music is country gospel, much of it written by them. Along with their music, Virgil will bring you lots of laughs as well. This church is at First and Brookings in Smith River.

New Life will bring you a potluck / movie night in a few weeks, as well as another game night.

Hopefully, there will be more things next week.
