Mothers, fathers, teachers and caregivers for young children on Wednesday will learn why building self esteem at a young age is important to a child's social development.
"Building Young Children's Self Esteem" is the first in a series of California Alternative Payment Program Association webinars that First 5 Del Norte will show this month. The California Alternative Payment Program Association, or CAPPA, advocates and facilitates family access to quality child care, support services and early education and development programs.
First 5 Del Norte will also be showing other CAPPA webinars later this month focusing on science, technology and math in early childhood education.
"It's from their 2014 child development webinar series," said Cara Brustol, a VISTA volunteer who works with First 5 Del Norte. "First 5 purchased all of those - there's a total of 12. We decided to open it up to the public and community."
Patty Wipfler, program director and founder of Hand in Hand Parenting, will be the speaker for Wednesday's "Building Young Children's Self Esteem" webinar.
Wednesday's webinar will take place 4andndash;5:45 p.m. at the First 5 Family Resource Center, 494 Pacific Ave. in Crescent City.
CAPPA's "Implementing STEM in the Early Childhood Classroom" webinar will be held on Aug. 20. Its "Fun Ways to Use Technology in the Classroom" will be held on Aug. 27. Both webinars will be held at the First 5 Family Resource Center.
To RSVP for the webinars, call 464-0955. On-site child care and light snacks are provided.
First 5 is also offering a series of American sign language webinars for children ages 0andndash;5 starting on Aug. 23. Brustol said First 5 will offer the sign language webinars, hosted by Time to Sign Inc., one Saturday a month for the next four months.
Topics include the alphabet, animals, colors, emotions, basic signs and more. Parents and caregivers will also learn some songs.
