Obituaries: Betty Y. Bruhy (Yunker)(1923-2008)

Betty Grace Yunker, born Aug. 17, 1923, in Milwaukee, passed away Oct. 22, 2008, in Vancouver Wash.

Betty had previously been a resident of Del Norte County for 30 years.

Betty was married to Jim Bruhy for 29 years. She was a member of the Salinas chapter of Eastern Star and of the Salinas chapter of Sweet Adeline's and was a homemaker.

In 1967, Betty and her family moved to Klamath, where she worked for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) at the 777 Radar Squadron Exchange. In 1979, she moved to Travis Air Force Base, where she continued to work for AAFES.

After retiring, she moved to Ship Ashore Resort in Smith River, where she was a member of the Friendship Club. In 2000 she moved to Olalla, Wash., with her daughter Jody Mason.

In 2006 she moved to the German Retirement Home in Kirkland, Wash., where she remained until late 2007, when she moved to Battleground, Wash., to live with her daughter, Jo Ann Petersen. Her final home was Cascade Park Care Center in Vancouver.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother and sister.

She is survived by her four children, Jody (Danny) Mason of Olalla, Wash., JoAnn (Richard) Petersen of Battleground, Wash., Dean (Gayla) Bruhy of Klamath; and Scott (Kim) Bruhy of Springfield, Ore.; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; three nieces and two nephews.

A private service for family and close friends will be held in Del Norte County at a later date.
