Berneice (Kline) Close of Springfield, Ore., died Oct. 1. She was 98.
She was born on Nov. 29, 1909, in Portland, Ore., to Edward and Charlotte Dooney.
She married David Hobart (Hobe) Kline on June 18, 1938 in Westport, Ore. He died in 1975. She married Marion Close on April 6, 1991, in Crescent City. He died in 2003.
Berneice was raised in rural Linn County, Ore. She lived in Westport; Seattle; Foster, Ore.; Crescent City, Eureka and most recently Springfield.
She was a member of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Crescent City Methodist Church and the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She worked as a nurse, a grocery clerk, a retail sales clerk and as a homemaker. She loved sewing, gardening and yard sales and was known for her unusual cooking recipes.
Bernie is survived by son Burton Kline and his wife, Barbara, son Hobart Kline and his wife Marilyn; daughter Berna Rausch and her husband Doyle, daughter Darlene Kline-Dolby and her husband, Lloyd; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Neva Hovee and her husband, Ray; brother Gene Walters and his wife Ethel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her elder brother Phil Dooney and her twin brother Bernard Dooney died previously.
A memorial service was held Oct. 5 at Musgrove Family Center. A graveyard service in Crescent City will be held at a later date.
