Former Crescent City resident, Isora A. Varner, 98, of Grants Pass, Ore., died Oct. 7, 2008, at her home.

Isora was born on Feb. 19, 1910, in Lakeview, Ore., to Pliny and Alvena Jerome. She grew up in sawmill camps. While living in Lakeview she rode in the rodeo and parades.

In the early 1930s she married Percy Varner. For many years she worked as a waitress. In 1985, she moved from Crescent City to Grants Pass.

She loved horses and belonged to the Lakeview Women's Riding Club. She served as secretary of her bowling league, both in Crescent City and Grants Pass. She enjoyed making crafts and entered them in the Del Norte County Fair, where she won many blue ribbons for her driftwood plaques, mobiles and collages.

Survivors include a daughter, Lucretia Martinson of Lincoln; a son, Eugene Varner of Crescent City; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Varner; a son, Victor Varner, and grandaughter, Jeanette.
