James Stannard Bolander, 81, passed away Sept. 13, 2008, at home in Crescent City with his wife and family at his bedside. He was born in Ogden, Utah, to Wanda and James S. Bolander, Sr., on April 29, 1927.

His family moved to the Reno/Sparks, Nev., area, and as a young boy Jim cherished his summer times in Montello, Nev., with his grandparents. Jim was a WW II Navy veteran and received the Purple Heart for his service in the Pacific.

Prior to his retirement, Jim was in law enforcement and property management. He and his wife moved from Los Angeles to Crescent City in 1981. Jim served with the Sheriff's Department for several years.

He started and owned Del Norte Security and also started the Crescent City chapter of the International Footprinter's Association for retired police officers.

Jim loved building his home on the Smith River and enjoyed fishing.

Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Louisa; and his children Steve Bolander, Kim Reynolds, John Bolander, Brian Bolander and wife Sandra, Michelle Keizer and husband Lester, and James F. Bolander; sisters Doree Starr, Margie Edgington and husband Paul, half-brother Randy Bolander, half-sister Julie Yednock and husband Jack; grandchildren Robyn, Annika, Erik and wife Dani, Chelsea, Natasha, Kelsey and Kaylin; four great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in James' memory to the American Cancer Society, 1301 Northcrest Drive, Crescent City, CA 95531.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
