Marie McDonald, 96, of Brookings, Ore., died Aug. 26, 2008, at a local care facility of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 31, 1911, in New York City to Louis and Kathalin Szenegeto.

She married John F. McDonald in Wood-Ridge, N.J., on Sept. 11, 1954.

Mrs. McDonald was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. While living in Wood-Ridge, she was president of her local Women's Club.

She enjoyed animals, sewing and traveling. She took a lot of pride in the accomplishments of her two sons, who preceded her in death: John Starets formally of Crescent City, who was respected and loved for sharing his passion in teaching music and acting in local theater; and Richard Starets, formally of Bridgton, Maine, who was an International Captain for US Airways.

She was also preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by daughters-in law Jane A. Starets of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Sandra Starets of Hawaii; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego next to her husband. Cremation is under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
