Pauline L. Osburn passed away June 9, 2008, in Crescent City. She was 79.

Pauline was born in Washington; a daughter of Frank Augustus and Bessie Mae (Scott). As a child, she moved with her family to Bandon, Ore., and was living there at the time of a fire that devastated most of the town. Following the fire, her family lived with others from the town on a rescue ship and then the beach before moving back to Washington.

She graduated from high school in Everett, Wash., then worked at a nursing home owned by her grandmother. She married Calvin Rathbun in the mid-1940s. Four children were born of the union. The couple later divorced, and Pauline worked as a waitress.

On Oct. 29, 1960, she married Gerald Osburn. The family lived in Alaska and several Western and Midwestern states over the next 40 years. Mr. Osburn passed away in 2000 while living in North Bend, Ore.

Pauline moved to Crescent City in 2004 to be near her daughter and granddaughter.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and painting, and was an avid reader. In her younger days, she enjoyed playing the drums and was also a race car driver for a while.

Before becoming ill, she attended Pelican Bay Evangelical Free Church of Crescent City.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lora (Teegarden) and David Sanyaolu of Crescent City; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Cynthia Rathbun of Texas; son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Milagros Rathbun of Alaska; son Randall of Washington; step-children Avalon, Renee, Lynden and Jackie Osburn of West Virginia; granddaughter Alexis (Lexie) Johnson of Oregon; granddaughters Patricia and Emily of Texas; grandsons Paul, Shawn, Scott, and St. John of Alaska.
