James D. Kitchen, 53, died Dec. 26, 2007, in Smith River. He was born Aug. 29, 1954, in Sasebo, Japan.

Jim was a resident of Smith River for 16 years. He was a veteran, having served in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Navy. He worked for Pelican Bay State Prison for many years.

He loved golfing, bowling and sports.

He is survived by his wife, Patti Kitchen, of Las Vegas; two stepchildren, Allison Masters, of Arcata, and Addam Masters, of Las Vegas; goddaughter, Crystal Herbst, of New Jersey; and granddaughter, Katrena Masters, of Arcata.

Jim is also survived by his parents, Hank and Michiko Kitchen, of Sousbyville; two sisters, Mary Jane Willner, of Gult and Sue Norton, of Susanville; six nieces and one great-nephew and two great-nieces.

He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family.
