Kathleen Schneider died unexpectedly on Friday, December 14, 2007 at the family home in Bayside.

Kathleen was born April 23, 1955 at Seaside Hospital in Crescent City to Jack and Marlene McKellar. She was raised in Klamath and attended Margaret Keating Elementary School before moving on to Del Norte High. At Del Norte High she was on the drill team and was voted homecoming queen. Kathleen later competed for and obtained the title of Miss Del Norte as well as Miss Congeniality. She was employed by the Del Norte County District Attorney's Office, then took a position for Safeway stores.

Kathleen married her husband, David, in August 1976. Together they raised their children, Travis, Veronica and Ryan and built a loving and close family, with her standing in the center. No matter how successful, Kathleen was truly never pretentious.

Her focus was her family. She was actively interested in every facet of their lives and gained satisfaction in supporting them to reach their goals. The nurturing, loyalty and encouragement she provided to her family soon reached many others, young and old. Kathleen was a familiar face at many youth sporting events and actively supported so many kids in the community. She spent many hours involved with Youth 4-H and also served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Redwood Acres Fair and Arcata Little League.

Kathleen took great pleasure in riding her horses, spending time with their dogs, caring for her home and helping to run the ranch. She spent a significant amount of time with extended family, especially the babies and children. She possessed a natural beauty with an innate gift of care and an ability to give so much to everyone around her. She has significantly touched the lives of many people, making a difference in so many hearts.

Kathleen is survived by her husband of 32 years, David, children Travis, Veronica and Ryan, mother Marlene McKellar, sisters Monica and Lisa, brother Robert, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Kathleen was preceded in death by her father Jack McKellar and brother Jackie McKellar.

In lieu of flowers, food or gifts, please make a contribution to the charitable animal organization of your choice in Kathleen's name.

All are invited to a celebration of her life held at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds in Eureka at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 21.
