Obituaries: Thomas Eugene Bunting(1922-2007)

Thomas Eugene Bunting, 85, was born on March 22, 1922 in Niles, to Lawrence and Genevieve (Garvey) Bunting. He died on November 18, 2007 in Crescent City. He was a 26-year resident of Del Norte County, having moved here from Fremont. A World War II veteran, he served on the USS Maryland BB 46.

Mr. Bunting retired as a Deputy Sheriff from Alameda County where he was employed for 25 years. He was a member of the Gasquet American Legion #548, where he held the position of Commander this year. He was a treasurer for the BPOE Elks Lodge #1689 in Crescent City.

He was a commercial fisherman who loved to fish and hunt. Mr. Bunting was a member of the Del Norte Gun Club. According to his family he had an opinion for every situation.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolly Bunting of Crescent City; Sons, Tom and wife Connie Bunting of Ukiah, Bill and wife Maidy Bunting of South Lake Tahoe, Garvey and wife Donna Bunting of Ripon; Brother BJ and wife Dorothy Bunting of Fremont; Sister-in-law Kathleen Bunting of Yreka; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family requests contributions be made to the Rowdy Creek Hatchery, P.O. 328, Smith River, CA 95567.

Per the request of the family, no services will be held.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
