Barbara June Fenton, 71, of Hillsboro, Ore., died June 24, 2007, at her residence.

She was born to William Robert and Margaret Mary (Mendes) Shumway June 6, 1936, in Carmel.

She was raised and educated in Pacific Grove, graduating from Junipero Memorial High School in Monterey in 1954.

She worked at Pac Bell, which became GTE in 1969, retiring from the company in 1994.

Barbara enjoyed being with her grandchildren and was a great supporter of her family. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, bowling, casinos, snorkeling and traveling to Hawaii.

She was a sports enthusiast who was a fan of Tiger Woods.

She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Andrea Shumway of Monterey, and Noel and Janetta Shumway of Larkspur; three sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Peggy Hurt of Crescent City, Michael and Cindy Hurt of Eagle Point, Ore., Tommy and Lisa Hurt of Keizer, Ore.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Mark Schoenleber of Ashland, Ore.; and Patty and Terry Miller of Portland, Ore.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Tamara Hurt of Sutherlin, Ore.; Petty Officer Kyle Hurt of San Diego, Michael Hurt Jr. of Eagle Point, Ore.; Heather and Chadd Griffin of Jackson; Daniel Goodman of Medford, Ore.; Ryan Goodman of Salem, Ore.; Matthew and Justin Hurt of Keizer, Ore.; and Samantha and Stephanie Miller of Portland, Ore.; two nephews, Chris Shumway of Warner Robbins, Ga.; Gregory Shumway of Sarasota, Fla.; niece, Jennifer Holte, Sarasota, Fla., and four great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.
