Robert Vincent Smallwood, 70, died in Crescent City, May 3, 2007. He was born Dec. 11, 1936, in Berkeley.

The Smallwoods moved to Crescent City in 1953. Robert attended Del Norte High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He drove trucks for 40 years and retired in Brookings in 2002. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite, an avid golfer and fisherman. He always had a garden going, and had a menagerie of animals. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Loreen Smallwood of Brookings, his daughter Stacie Lee and her husband Jeffery of Brookings, his son Robert and wife Joyce of Eatonville, Wash., his son Phillip and wife Shannon of Seattle, Wash., his daughter Kate Hyre and her partner Kelly Conner of Chico, his brother Lee Smallwood and wife Joan of Crescent City, and his sister Rose Wilson and her husband Patrick of Crescent City. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Smallwood, Sr. and Rose Smallwood.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. May 10 at Wier's Mortuary Chapel.
