Jamie Wifred Kerttula Jr. died at his home in Smith River April 16, 2007.

He was born on April 2, 1959, in Crescent City.

Jamie was a life-long resident of Smith River and a sportsman. He enjoyed rooting for the San Francisco Giants as well as the San Francisco 49ers. He also really enjoyed watching NASCAR. Jamie was a great fisherman and an avid hunter. He had a vast knowledge of the wilderness areas of Del Norte County. He camped frequently.

Jamie worked at Simonson Lumber Company until it closed. He then worked as a logger for Taylor Westbrook. Jamie also logged for BRWEY. He later worked for Dalhstrom and Watt in Smith River.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Kerttula Sr; brother, Edward Kerttula; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jamie is survived by his parents Glenn and Janice Hill of Smith River; mother Joanne Kerttula of Coos Bay, Ore.; uncle Gayle Haegy of Coos Bay; uncle Roy and aunt Diane Kerttula of McCloud; brothers Kevin (Laura) Kerttula, Ronald (Loree) Kerttula.

He is also survived by his nephews, Kevin Kerttula Jr., Cody Kerttula and Morgan Kerttula of Smith River, and Marine Lance Cpl. Andrew Sroufe of San Diego; nieces Mackenzie Kerttula of Smith River and Janice Kerttula of Crescent City, and numerous cousins.

A service for Jamie will be held at 3 p.m. April 21 at Smith River Community Hall. A potluck in the hall will follow.
