Robert Allen Giblin, 96, died March 23 in Crescent City. He was born Oct. 16, 1910 in Santa Cruz. Robert was a 16-year resident of Del Norte County, living in Smith River.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, in the Los Angeles area and Eureka, and was a 50-year member of the National Letter Carriers Association. He also belonged to the Chetco Senior Center.

Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in Shanghai.

While living in the Los Angeles area, he was a scoutmaster. He enjoyed traveling, and hunting and fishing during his younger years.

He is survived by his wife, Blanche Giblin of Smith River, his son, Jere Giblin of Santa Rosa, daughter, Patricia Mount of Fresno, and his step-children, Shirley Martin of Lincoln, James Saunders of Reno, Nev., and Patrick Saunders of Penryn.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

A private family service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
