Obituary: Mavis Irene (Salisbury) Deines (1920-2009)

Mavis Irene (Salisbury)Deines passed away Jan. 2, 2009, at a local care facility following a long illness. She was 88.

Mavis was born May 22, 1920, in Riggin, N.D.; a daughter of Claude and Polly (Rau) Salisbury.She was raised and educated in Minnewaukan, N.D.

She met her future husband, Albert Deines, on a blind date.Following a whirlwind romance, they were married Jan. 23, 1943, in Macon, Ga.

Mr. Deines's Air Force career took the family to homes throughout the country, including Washington, Montana, Illinois, New York,California and Alaska.

Mavis was a dedicated and traditional homemaker, and throughout their marriage, Mavis devoted herself to making a comfortable home for her family.

Following Mr. Deines' retirement in the mid-1960s, the couple lived in Vacaville, Brookings, Ore., and Seattle before settling in Crescent City in the late 1990s.

Mavis loved being involved with her own children and their activities as they grew.She was a lifelong Lutheran, and strived to instill a religious foundation in each of her children.

She enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, crafts and sewing.

Survivors include her husband Albert of Crescent City; daughter, Lori LaBello(Anthony)of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Allen Deines of Crescent City and David Albert Deines (Alana)of Redmond , Wash.; brother, Rodger Salisbury of Montezuma, Kan.; two sisters, Joy Tollefson Beckman of Wickenberg, Ariz., and CecilIverson of Jamestown, N.D.; three grandchildren, Vance and Anthony LaBello of Jacksonville and Mark LaBello of Seymour, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Kimberley and Christopher LaBello.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Richard, Gordon and Jessie Kay Salisbury and a sister Rachel C. Johnson.

Memorials may be made tothe charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by Redwood Memorial Chapel.
