Obituary: Aline Hargon-Cummings (1913-2008)

Aline E. (Vanderburg) Hargon-Cummings passed away Dec. 23, 2008. Aline was born Sept. 3, 1913, in Texas.

She worked for the state government in the Sacramento area for more than 30 years before retiring. In 1985 she moved to Crescent City to share a home with her beloved twin, Frances Gaffke, who died in 1997.

Aline's daughter, Sharon Hargon moved to Crescent City in 1992 to help take care of them when Frances had health problems.

Aline was also preceded in death by her son Tom Hargon and her daughter Fran Knouf.

She had eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Sharon's daughters Tamara Coppenbarger of Washington and Kimberlynumm Lee-Basset of Sacramento came to Crescent City many times in the summer and fall to help their mom Sharon and grandmother Aline.

Her grandson Jesse Lee stayed for two months when his grandmothers needed him.

She was a great cook and reader who instilled on her family a love of books.

She was grateful to the California State Library for providing her with books on tape after her vision failed.

The family is having a private service.
