William W. Owen, known to his friends and family as "Pepper," died June 4, 2013, after a long illness. He was born in South San Francisco. He grew up and lived much of his life in the Smith River-Crescent City area. Pepper loved to fish, camp and host family gatherings. He had the greatest pride and joy in his family. He was an exceptional craftsman and fashioned many beautiful items from wood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Florede and Bill Owen; brother Patrick Owen; granddaughter Jessamine Nail and lifetime friend Franklin Moorehead.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Melana Allison Owen; children Melinda Hinshaw (Bill), Muronica Owen, Wade Owen (Deanna), Rosalee Best (Keith), Cynthia Owen; grandchildren Kyle and Matthew Hinshaw; Wade Owen (Amber); De-Sre, River and Race Richards; Chase, Alexis and Blake Owen; Dessirae Stringfellow (Cory) and Ashley Anderson (Steven); great-grandchildren Kaydence, Layton and Paisley Owen and Vincent Schmitz; sisters: Sandy De Silva (Al), Marge Wallace and Candy Owen; brother Tom Owen (Trish); aunt Pat Fitzhugh; uncle Carter Haven (Jeannie); cousin and best friend Dean Larson (Brenda); cherished service dog Cocoa.
No ceremonies or gatherings will be held per Pepper's instructions.
