Lifelong resident of Del Norte County, Bruce passed away October 17, 2013. Born and raised in Smith River. Bruce attended Smith River Elementary and Del Norte High School, graduating in 1976. As a DNHS Warrior, Bruce played football and wrestled throughout his high school career, earning a white star his senior year. He also attended College of the Siskiyous.

Bruce had a great love for the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and abalone diving with family and friends.

He held several jobs including oil rigger, logger and carpenter. He was employed at Pelican Bay State Prison as a carpenter for over the last 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Conner; son Jonathan Conner (wife Tamara), daughters Morgan Turner (husband Tyson) and Leslie Lockhart, as well as stepson Travis; grandchildren Taylor, Cameron, Zachary; brother Jerry Conner (wife Jane); and sister Carol Conner. He was preceded in death by parents, John and Luella Conner, and sister Nancy Conner.

A celebration of life potluck will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013, at the Smith River Community Hall, 241 First Street, Smith River. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Del Norte Scholarship fund in memory of Bruce Conner.
