Obituary: Donald Edward Moltrup Sr.

Donald Edward Moltrup Sr., went home to be with the Lord at the age of 83 on Dec. 25, 2013, surrounded by his wife and three children.

Don was born in New York and lived in California since 1970 with his loving wife, Marie Moltrup, whom he was married to for 61 years. He was a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army, proudly served one tour in the Korean war and served 20 years in the Army Reserves.

Don was known in the community for his expert welding skills and the 1955 Willy's Jeep he drove in the 4th of July parade every year with his beloved wife and dog. He loved the game of pool and always welcomed challengers. Don also enjoyed playing cards including eucher, rummy and poker. He proudly attended the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and assisted with the grounds maintenance over the years.

Don is survived by his wife Marie Moltrup; his children Linda (James) Strathearn, Diane (Steve) Sugarman and Daniel (Querube) Moltrup; his grandchildren, Rose Eller, Amy Betts and Aidan Moltrup; sisters Dorris Webb and Violet Brasmeister; brother George Moltrup Jr; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son Donald Edward Moltrup Jr.; parents George and Anna Moltrup; brother Earl Moltrup; and sister Etta Schmid.

Visitation will be held at Wier's Mortuary Chapel on Monday, Dec. 30, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., with memorial services following visitation at the First Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Interment immediately following services at the IOOF Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
