Letters: Teacher thanks those who've contributed to energy project

I would like to publicly thank several people who have contributed thus far to our Alternative Energy Project at Crescent Elk Middle School. Without their help we could not have completed the first phase of our project under the A+ for Energy Grant from BP.

Barney Wienecke at Ace Hardware has generously donated much-needed hardware, Troy Duncan of Red Sky Roofing helped install roof mounts for the solar panels, and Matt Fearing of Northridge Electric donated the labor of two electricians for a full day to complete wiring.

A special thanks to Clarke Moore of Alternative Energy Systems for his enthusiastic and tireless assistance with design, purchase, and installation in all phases of this project.

Now, thanks to Pacific Power, we can move forward with an expanded solar array and a state of the art wind turbine. This addition will help us gather valuable information as to the economic viability of wind and solar power in our community. Soon after installation of the wind turbines, Crescent Elk students will offer weekly tours of the system and provide data to any interested members of the community on our school web site.

The participation of those named above makes this a true community- based project, and we are grateful.
